“They [the mainstream media] are creating a danger to our democracy by not doing their job” – Theodore Postol, April 24, 2017
Theodore A. Postol, the MIT Scientist, whose previous reports scientifically revealed that the White House had lied in order to justify President Donald J. Trump’s unconstitutional Syrian missile strike, has now excoriated the U.S. mainstream media for its failure to cover his critical analysis.
Following the release of his fourth scientific report — a report in which the former scientific adviser to the U.S. Chief of Naval Operations disputes that the bomb crater cited by the White House was the source of a sarin gas attack — Postol excoriated the U.S. mainstream media on April 24 when interviewed on-air by my colleague, investigative journalist, Brad Friedman. (full audio available below).
This is not a case in which the corporate-owned mainstream media was simply unaware of scientific evidence disputing the Trump administration’s narrative. “I have sent these things to people who know me well from The New York Times and [PBS],” Postol explained, but they didn’t even call him back. Neither of these “news” outlets so much as cited, let alone attempted to scientifically refute Postol’s assessment. That, Postol said, was deeply disappointing:
“From my point of view, this may be the most serious event — with regard to American democracy — from this whole incident. Because the only way American democracy can function is if the press performs the role of providing accurate information, and also raising questions if those questions deserve to be looked at. And there’s no question here that the questions deserved to be looked at.”
Postol also told Friedman that he has “reason to believe that people in the U.S. government have reviewed some of what [he’d] put out and are in agreement.” He believes that nothing he, Postol, has included in his reports would come as “a surprise to the Intelligence Community.”
When asked by Friedman why those government people have come forward to validate his findings, Postol said it was because “they would go to jail.”
