TRUMP: Forget About My ‘Loyalty Day’ Proclamation, “We don’t worship government”

WASHINGTON (May 14, 2017) —  The week after declaring May 1st as “Loyalty Day” for all Americans to “pledge our dedication to the United States of America,” Donald Trump told a graduating class that “in America, we don’t worship Government, we worship God.”

Trump’s “not worshiping Government” remarks seem to contradict his own “Loyalty Day” proclamation made just days prior, in which he encouraged Americans to “reaffirm our allegiance” to “honor our Republic.”

Trump’s “Loyalty Day” Proclamation

The President’s proclamation praised Government bureaucracies like the “Department of Defense and other national security agencies” for securing liberty for all Americans.

Trump said, “Brave service members and Veterans” take a “solemn pledge to protect and defend our Constitution,” the founding document that created our national Government.

“I call on all Americans to observe this day …   including recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance,” which just so happens to include the words “I pledge allegiance … to the Republic.

According to Trump’s “Loyalty Day” proclamation, “We honor the United States of America” and “the loyalty of our citizenry.”

That’s not what he told the students of Liberty University.

I call on all Americans to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies in our schools and other public places, including recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. —Donald Trump, “Loyalty Day” proclamation, May 1, 2017

In many ways, Trump’s loyalty day proclamation directly conflicts with what he told graduates at the world’s largest evangelical Christian university about “not worshiping Government.”

With regards to loyalty, the reality-tv-host turned President faced criticism for not only firing FBI Director James Comey, but for first demanding a pledge of loyalty from the former intelligence officer. (Comey refused)

Later, when asked if intelligence agencies like the FBI should relinquish their independence and serve the President instead of the American people, Trump said, “I don’t think it’s inappropriate.”
